Tesla is accepting reservations for the electric sports car, with payments reaching Rs 2.50 crore for the Thrust configuration.

Tesla has opened reservations for its new Roadster in India, but deliveries remain uncertain. The Performance configuration requires a total reservation payment of Rs 50.06 lakh, while the Thrust version costs about Rs 2.50 crore to reserve. Tesla has not announced an India delivery date.

The company says Roadster production will begin in 2028 with left-hand-drive vehicles only. It has not shared a timeline for right-hand-drive production, leaving key details for Indian buyers unconfirmed.

Tesla Roadster: Reservation Payment Details

Customers reserving the Roadster Performance must first pay Rs 5.01 lakh. They must then pay another Rs 45.05 lakh within 10 days, bringing the total to Rs 50.06 lakh.

The Thrust configuration follows a similar payment process but requires a much larger balance. After the initial Rs 5.01 lakh, customers must pay Rs 2,45,24,000 within 10 days. The total reservation payment comes to Rs 2,50,25,000, or around Rs 2.50 crore.

Tesla describes the initial Rs 5.01 lakh payment as fully refundable. However, a reservation is not final until the full payment is received. The company may cancel the reservation if the remaining amount is not paid within 10 days.

Tesla has also limited the Thrust configuration to one order per customer. Its availability depends on local laws and regulatory requirements. As a result, the configuration’s thruster functionality may not be offered in markets where it is not permitted.

Tesla Roadster Production and Delivery Timeline

Tesla’s stated production plan raises questions about when Indian customers could receive the Roadster. Production is scheduled to begin in 2028, initially with left-hand-drive vehicles.

No timeline has been announced for right-hand-drive models. This leaves India-specific details, final pricing and delivery arrangements uncertain.

The reservation amounts listed for Indian customers should not be treated as confirmation of a delivery date. Buyers will need further information about production, regulatory approval and local availability.

Roadster Performance and Thrust Configurations

The Roadster Performance is designed to seat two people. It features active aerodynamics and a multi-mode suction system intended to generate extra downforce. Downforce helps keep the tyres in contact with the road, supporting grip.

The Thrust configuration adds acceleration thrusters and is described by Tesla as a race-ready, limited-availability option. However, the availability of its thruster features depends on local regulations.

Tesla also lists a Rocket configuration with seating for one person. It includes what the company calls a full flight system and is available by invitation only. The India booking page does not show a reservation amount for this version.

Roadster Design and Aerospace Influence

Tesla says the Roadster’s design takes inspiration from the SR-71 and F-35 aircraft. The company has also confirmed the use of SpaceX components.

These elements reflect the car’s aerospace influence, alongside its low-slung body and cockpit-style cabin. However, Tesla has not provided a confirmed India delivery schedule.

Tesla Model Y L Gets Free Acceleration Boost

Alongside the Roadster reservations, Tesla India has announced a complimentary Acceleration Boost for the six-seater Model Y L. The upgrade reduces the claimed 0–100 kmph acceleration time to 4.5 seconds.

Tesla says the Model Y L retains a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 681 km. WLTP is a standard test used to estimate vehicle range under set conditions; actual range can vary with driving and road conditions.

For now, the Roadster’s production schedule and the lack of a right-hand-drive timeline remain key details for Indian buyers. Tesla has not confirmed when deliveries to India will begin.
