Kia will introduce factory-fitted CNG versions of the Carens and Carens Clavis in India, with both models using a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 60-litre CNG tank.

Kia has confirmed factory-fitted CNG versions of the Carens and Carens Clavis for India. Both MPVs will use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 60-litre CNG tank. Kia made the announcement at the launch of the Sorento SUV in India.

The company has not announced prices or variant details yet. It has also not confirmed the launch date. The CNG models are expected to arrive before Diwali 2026.

Factory-Fitted CNG Setup

The Carens and Carens Clavis have earlier been offered with dealer-fitted CNG kits in select locations. The new versions will get a factory-fitted system developed as part of the standard vehicle.

The 60-litre CNG tank will sit in the boot. Kia says it has retained the spare wheel below the vehicle. This setup is important for buyers who need practical boot and spare-wheel space.

The factory-fitted system means the CNG parts will be integrated during production. This includes the fuel system, calibration and related components.

Engine Output

Both models will use a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. On CNG, the engine will produce 93 hp and 123 Nm of torque.

The CNG version makes 22 hp and 21 Nm less than the standard petrol engine. Kia has not yet released an official fuel-efficiency figure.

The company says the engine has been calibrated to provide usable performance for daily driving. The CNG versions are also expected to use a six-speed manual gearbox. Kia has not confirmed whether an automatic gearbox will be offered.

Chassis Changes for CNG Models

Kia has made chassis-related changes to handle the added weight of the CNG tank. These include revised suspension tuning and upgraded front disc brakes.

The changes are aimed at maintaining predictable ride and braking behaviour. The additional weight is carried at the rear because of the tank.

Carens Clavis Current Powertrain Options

The Kia Carens Clavis currently starts at Rs 11.27 lakh, ex-showroom. The wider range offers different seating layouts and petrol, turbo-petrol, diesel and electric powertrains.

The CNG option will add another fuel choice for buyers. It could also appeal to customers looking to reduce fuel costs.

Launch Timeline

Kia has not announced the official launch date for the Carens and Carens Clavis CNG models. The vehicles are expected to arrive before Diwali 2026.

Kia is yet to announce their prices, variants and official fuel-efficiency figures. Those details are expected to be provided closer to the launch.
