The new Huawei flagship arrives in China with a 200MP telephoto camera, 6,800mAh battery and an optional camera module.
Huawei has launched the Mate 90 Pro Max in China with a strong focus on photography. The flagship phone features a 200MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera and a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display. It also packs a 6,800mAh battery and supports an optional 1-inch modular camera system.
The phone uses a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, RYYB technology and optical image stabilisation. Its aperture can change continuously from f/1.4 to f/4.0. A 40MP ultrawide camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera complete the main camera setup.
The telephoto camera has a 1/1.28-inch sensor and also uses RYYB technology. It supports optical image stabilisation, up to 4x optical zoom, 8x optical-quality zoom and 100x digital zoom. Huawei has also added a third-generation Red Maple primary-colour camera for improved colour reproduction.
The Collector’s Edition can work with Huawei’s Ruiying Z10 module camera. The module uses a 1-inch RYYB sensor and offers 10x continuous optical zoom. It has a 24-240mm focal range and an f/2.0-f/4.5 aperture. The phone supports 4K video recording as well.
For selfies, the Mate 90 Pro Max has a 13MP ultrawide front camera with autofocus. It is paired with a 3D depth-sensing camera.
The display measures 6.9 inches and has a 2848×1320 resolution. It uses a dual-layer OLED panel with a 1-120Hz LTPO refresh rate. LTPO technology allows the display refresh rate to adjust based on the content.
The panel also supports 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and up to 12,000 nits of local peak brightness. It supports the BT.2020 colour gamut and is protected by Kunlun Glass. The Collector’s Edition uses Basalt Kunlun Glass.
The phone is powered by a 6,800mAh battery. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The 16GB versions use Huawei’s Kirin 9050 Pro processor and run HarmonyOS 7.
