Xiaomi’s new cordless hair straightener gets a larger battery, updated heating system and redesigned comb.
Xiaomi has launched the second-generation Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener in China. The Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener 2 is available through Xiaomi Youpin for 299 yuan, or about $45.
The new model keeps the same launch price as the first-generation version. Its biggest change is the battery, which now offers longer use between charges.
The straightener uses two 5000mAh batteries. The previous model used two 3200mAh cells. Xiaomi says the new version can run for up to 70 minutes on a full charge.
The company says that battery life can provide around seven to eight sessions on short hair. It can also support about three to four sessions on medium-length hair. The previous model offered around four sessions for either hair length.
Charging is handled through a USB Type-C port. This allows users to charge the device with a standard Type-C cable.
Updated heating system
The Mijia Wireless Hair Straightener 2 also gets a new heating system. It uses a PI heating film instead of the MCH ceramic heating element used in the earlier model.
An NTC sensor checks the temperature 500 times per second. Xiaomi says this helps cut preheating time by 20 percent.
Users can choose from three temperature settings: 160°C, 180°C and 200°C. A real-time LED display shows the current temperature, power consumption and operating status.
Redesigned comb and plasma system
Xiaomi has also changed the comb design. The new straightener has 52 teeth, compared with 36 on the previous model.
According to Xiaomi, the extra teeth are designed to hold more hair as the device moves through each section. This change is part of the redesigned styling system.
The new model also uses a composite plasma system to help control frizz and static. Xiaomi says it produces 37 million composite plasma particles per session.
The system includes 18 million positive ions and 19 million negative ions. The previous model used negative ions alone.
